Plug colours...

yep - would prefer warm and dry to rain though in this circumstance... water dripping off the bonnet down your back isnt fun!

Very carefull inspection of the head face should give you an idea if it's gone soft etc.

You can get a full kit, including head gaskets, steel shim, head bolts, and uprated ladder rail, but it's £110+ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-K-SERIES-M ... 2eb4d2bd31

On the basis that they're pretty easy to work on, it's probably worth just trying the cheap option first, and if that doesn't work, then give it the fully monty treatment.

Head face completely smooth. Gasket just blown out in the font left hand corner.

I've fitted everything in that kit apart from the oil rail. So the stronger gasket without the stronger oil supply. saying that there was no shortage of oil at the top and no mixing of coolant and oil. So i think i've got a reasonable chance of success - fingers crossed...

Finger crossed, does sound like you've caught it very early, was the old one the old fashioned rubber "tracK" type gasket, with the nylon dowels ?

The old one had metal dowels... Its done about 5 miles since last night and is holding so far!

*edit* - up to 60 miles now!

Sounds like a missfire, have you tried putting the old arm back in ?

looks like it was the intermotor dizzy cap. (black one - looked high quality)

When removed the sprung centre pin just fell out. Not sure i have the box or receipt still but i might take it back and try arguing!

THe cheap looking blue one, just like the cheap looking blue one in Ron's thread, works fine!

I bought an Intermotor MAF sensor for the 75 and that appeared to be useless too. Not convinced about their quality anymore, used to be reasonable enough stuff.

It never was good (or even reasonable) quality, as long back as the points era their stuff was hopeless. Despite all you hear about Lucas, back in the day their products could at least be relied on. The only exception with Intermotor were their Flasher units, as I have had good use out of those. I wouldn't use them for any ignition related parts though, or anything that could ever leave me stranded at the roadside.

i dont know to be honest. They're advertisting 6 cylinder ones on there - but i guess they'd have 8 cylinder ones if i mailed them!

Might be worth giving them a call. It was a while ago but the guy I talked to was really friendly and ceratinly knew all about Lucas dizzies.

And the answer is... The other bank shows no orange colouring - so PAE has a dodgy headgasket on the passenger side seems the most likely explanation!

Rich.

couple of things gents. firsly I think that geuine landrover caps might be the way forward for you here- the quality is still good and although they arnt cheap we have had no trouble.

would you like a part number?

Btw we have had just as much trouble with every other make including lucas themselves (although the landrover ones are lucas they seem to be better quality)

also what colour should the plugs be if everything is right? I have been told the colour of concrete is what I am aiming for?

Concrete - maybe a bit darker???

I'll bear that in mind about the caps... Got a good one for the time being so all ok for the moment :)
