Hi Chaps
Looking for your help again!
My series 2 SC has an 'optional extra' pod clock and rev counter which has never worked but clock does, since bought last year . It would be fair to say that the electrics are non standard, but could anyone advise me how the wires from the coil are supposed to be connected to the back of the rev counter?
I have read archive posts which reveal that the +ve connection controls the pulse to the rev counter. Unfortunately when connected as advised the rev counter tries to work and the engine then cuts out, presumably from a dead short to -ve from the second wire.
Thanks
John

Hi again!
Original post is now resolved and my rev counter now works. Grateful thanks to scauto for an earlier post concerning rev counters. I have followed his advice to connect and get it working. One question remains- does anyone know how to calbrate? on tick-over no revs are registered but prodding the accelerator gets a response - say 1000 rising to 2000 rpm which sounds about right but I would like to adjust(if I knew) to say 900 on tick over.
Thanks again to scauto

Hi there

Would be most grateful if you could pass on all your help as i have an identical problem.

Many thanks

Russ

your praise is gratefully received! As to Calibration do you have another tachometer/rev counter? such as in a multimeter meant for engine diagnosis? - if so hook it up to the car and then look at back of rev counter - likely to be a little hole that you can GENTLY insert a small flat screw driver and gently easy the control until you obtain a goof reading. If you dont have another tac/rev counter you could go to a garage - they must have one or find someone with something like an MGB and temporary wire your counter up in the engine bay at the coil- take the reference reading from the car's rev counter

:)

Dave - I would hope so, but I was assuming the rev counter was working ok, but just reads out a long way! its either above or send it away for rebuild and re-calibration £££££
