Police Spoilers are on.

Hey,
Received my set of police style spoilers this morning very well packed and shipped out from the UK by Quattro (Thanks!) and by fortuitious timing my run of meetings for the day lined up pretty perfectly to give me opertunity in between them to get them fitted to the car.

Have to say i was very pleased with how easy it was, the fit was excellent with only a small amount of sanding of the spoilers needed to get them lining up close enough for the adhesive to do the rest. I did everything in situ, without removing the front valance or even bothering to take the fog/driving lamps off. I obviously painted the spoilers off the car and thanks to the very pleasant 26 degree C ambient temperature today they dried in no time.

At some stage in the not too distant future I'll take the front valance off and do a bit of further sanding to get them closer in and a more perfect alignment but as I'm planning on swapping the valance for another of my spares that is in slightly better condition anyway at that stage I didn't want to modify them too much till then.

I also need to do some finishing of the paint but will leave this for a couple of days to allow it to properly harden.

Pics at various stages through the process below:

Holes drilled and one side fitted - I found it helped to drill one of the 2 holes wider than the other to allow for a little adjustment in the positioning.

Second spoiler on and lining up reasonably well. Drilling the wider hole definately helps when you have both on to allow you to adjust the positioning at a bit of a distance to try to get the angles lined up.

Painted and bolted up but with the gaps not yet finished with adhesive.

Gaps filled with a flexible polyurethane adhesive.

Adhesive painted (with a thin brush) - the brush obviously isn't ideal but isn't noticeable and i"ll redo when i repaint the spoilers and valance as one whole unit in future.

Finished result from a distance. I think it greatly improves the look of the front of the car with the squarer aspect with the spoilers and fog/driving lamps fitted.

OOhhh very nice too :D

Glad you're pleased with them. Did you find any small machine bolts for the inner fixing?

Richard

I'd just like to point out that you are a complete bastard* Al, big spacious garage, roof high enough for a rangie or two, painted floor. Dizzy stuff!

* not really.

Hello Al,

You did a good job at fitting those...very nice... :)

Now I am wondering....what will be the effect on engine and brake temperature given that the air flow that previously reached these areas will now not do so?

Ron.

Thanks guys, very happy with the result - now it just draws my attention even more to the buckled bonnet leaving the front looking not right but I'll get that sorted shortly hopefully.

I've not tracked down the other bolts yet, i thought i had some that would do the job but alas they are not long enough. I'll see what i can find when i get a chance to drop into a bolt shop some time over the next few days.

Ron, not sure what sort of effect they will have on engine/brake cooling but i'll certainly keep an eye out to see if i notice any change next time I'm driving it.

Geoff, the garage sold me on the house - if it gives you any comfort the ceiling isn't high enough at the back for me to jack the Discovery up much and the painted floor is peeling quite badly.. ;)
