Hello to you all. I've stumbled across an L registered 2000SC manual that I have been offered for peanuts. Body panels appear fine, along with the boot mounted spare wheel (!). I am aware of the need to check as much of the base unit as possible, there is another fault with the car - there's no drive to the back wheels..!

I'll do the obvious checks to see if the prop shaft is spinning, but I believe it's more than likely clutch related. I've been told that to do anything with the gearbox is a mjor job as the engine needs to be taken out. Can anyone tell me if this is correct and if so, how big a job is it for a P6 virgin embarking on his first classic car..?

Thanks for taking the time to read my waffle.

Andy.

It's not necessary to remove the engine or engine and box together to do a clutch, the gearbox will come out from underneath, but it is a tight squeeze. Easiest way before getting underneath is to see if the speedo works when you try to drive, if it does the fault is rearwards of the back of the gearbox. If it doesn't work then check the prop as you suggest.
Doing a clutch wouldn't be the easiest first job on a 2000, but it's do-able nevertheless.

The deed has been done..! Agreed to buy the car. If the base unit is in fine fettle, I'll have a nice usable P6 - once the problem with lack of drive has been addressed. If the base unit is shot then I'll have some spares for a 2000SC which will fund the purchase of another P6....

Oh the joys of classic car ownership...!
