Potential project BBQ

My latest addition to my wonderful p6 is a trailer. Just a thought at this point but the back end of a p6 made into a trailer to house a BBQ possibly. Any thoughts a anyone? Have we seen this done this before? Seen it on minis and Morris minors but though it would be novel for my rover.
Next question any one got the back end of a p6 they want to donate?

You could always remove the boot lid, and use the back end to make into a sofa! Make a seat to fit perfectly inside the boot space and retrim as you want. Either remove or leave the rear wheels on as you see fit, depending on whether or not you want to tow it or have it static at home, but remove the axle if you are going to keep it static to keep the weight down for easy moving. Wire up the rear lights for effect by using small household bulbs in place of the 12v system, (unless you are going to tow it of course, in which case it has to be 12V naturally) plug into a socket, and you are good to go! If you are feeling really creative, you could hinge the base of the seat, and get an old cooler from the tip, remove the insulated walls, and use those to line the lower boot area under the seat for an instant cooler! Fill with ice, with a drain plug you can pull to drain the water when the ice melts. Place it in your lounge, or out on the patio for the summer for when the guys come round for the BBQ ! Sorted!
If you really want to tow it though, and want the BBQ trailer, remove the boot lid hinges, and fit quick release pins like they do on the bonnet of race cars, that way, when you park up and want to get the BBQ going, you have the head clearance for cooking by being able to remove the boot lid quickly, and it stops the boot lid paint getting burnt! You can fit those more discrete 'push twist pins' if you dont want the quick release pins to be so obvious. On the insides of the boot, (on the inner wings) fit sliding runners like those used on metal filing cabinets, and fit your grill/tray to these. The idea being that you can slide the BBQ grill back to clear the rear bumper, and then fit a pair of fold down legs to support the part of the grill not connected to the boot. Use a pair of telescopic legs like those used on a cheap gazebo, so you can adjust the height of the legs, if for example, the back end of your trailer should be parked over a pavement or other surface not at ground level. It will take a bit of work, and maybe the help of an engineer, but would look great once done, and with a sliding grill, you wont have any worries about burning the paint on your trailer. Good luck whatever route you take, let us know how you get on! :D

I've got one that's about to go for final stripping.. the back end is pretty good. Feel free to PM me if you like, but it's down in Beds at the moment, and will be moved to Nick's yard in Surrey in a couple of weeks' time.
