Pre 1973 choke cable

My choke cable now no longer locks properly (a clothes peg is a temporary solution).

I have a spare inner cable with the banana shaped handle, not the later crushable type - would this be any use or is it likely to be the outer sleeve that is U/S?

IIRC there's a spring clamp round the body of the outer cable next to the end of the threads, which spring loads a ball that locks the inner cable in place as you twist it, so just replacing the inner cable won't cure it, but removing the outer cable and having a look at what's happening (or not happening) might.

Thanks Harvey, I will remove it and see if I can re-tension the spring clamp. IIRC, you need a special spanner to undo the nut that holds the end to the fascia next to the speaker?

Correct, "Popeye's Pipe" a cut-down box spanner of the correct size, with an 1/8" wide slot cut down the length of it, and a 2" long 3/16" dia rod handle welded on to it. It can be done without, but they do make life easier. By taking it out you've lost nothing even if it does need a new one. Choke cables and tank units were my two least favourite jobs.
