Purchase of Rostyle Wheels?

Can fellow members help by telling me what outlets sell Rostyle Wheels, and would they know what the costs are??

I had a reply pm from a member who claimed to have a set for sale on E-Bay, but hasn't replied to my pm. Would that member grant me the courtesy by replying, either by pm or on this forum. Thank you.

Paul

Rostyles in GOOD conditon are hard to come by, In excellent condition hens teeth.

You could try J R Wadhams and see what he may have in the way of second hand.

Otherwise check out http://rjspratley.com/ they restore this type of wheel.

Ebay is indeed the normal source.

14" P6 Rostyles are indeed very rare indeed. Consequently there is no point guessing the correct price, it all depends on the condition. As you see from elsewhere here a set of P6 ones recently sold on Ebay at £430, there's another set going through at the moment yet to have a bid at £100 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350320288490&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT). But note the first set were V8 width, this set from Ian are likely to be 4 pot (1/2" narrower).

P5 15" Rostyles are much more common. They can go from £30 a set right up to the mid hundreds. Again condition is key. P5 Rostyles are not quite the right offset for the P6,they sit too far out. They are fine with 185 section tyres and you should get away with 195 depending on how accurate your D posts are.

The wheels are built up from a pressed centre and a rolled rim, both chromed, rivetted together. Consequently restoration and rechroming is not easy. As far as I know Spratley's are the only people who tackle it.

I believe Spratleys charge about £250 per wheel plus vat. Therefore the ones on ebay could prove to be very, very expensive, before you can get them on the car.

I posted this (posing! ) picture on a similar thread a while ago:

These are 14" V8 (ie: 5 1/2 inch) rostyles that were in very poor condition. They were shotblasted & painted silver for under £100 the set. I painted the black sections by hand in satin black. With no centre caps or chrome nuts I think they look a bit more subtle than chromed ones, & are great for an everyday car exposed to salt & road muck on a regular basis.

Those Rostyles do look good powder coated. Don't overlook it as an option. I have powder coated original rims on my Ariel Square Four and for an everyday car or bike it is a good option.

To Pilkie,

Just a reminder, but you did say you would look out one of your spare 14" Rostyles for me, and let me know!

ianp6man, has 3 for sale, but 3 are no good without the 4th!

Please Pilkie, let me know soon, as "ianp6man" won't hold them forever!

Regards

Paul

Sorry to drag up an old thread-can I take it then that MGB rostyle wheels will fit a P6? I've got a set spare and think they might look rather smart on the car, if they fit, that is!

MGB are 4 stud, P6's are 5 stud.

You might find it a bit difficult to get them onto P6 hubs! Then there's the question of what to do with the left-over wheel nut....

Only teasing, sorry! MGB rostyles are 4-stud, the P6's are 5. That's why the proper 14" 5-stud Rostyles are rare as hen's teeth. A similar wheel was fitted to some BMC landcrabs (I think the 'upmarket' Riley/Wolseley variants, but am not 100% on that), but the offset was fractionally different and they were painted not chromed (at least I think I'm correct.... :? ). Otherwise, I'm not sure 5-stud 14" Rostyles were fitted to any other car AT ALL, and consequently there is a real shortage of them!

Whilst not perfect, the P5 option is probably the closest you'll get to the factory look for reasonable dosh. I looked into it myself as I really wanted some Rostyles. Got the 'S' trims on at the mo before I finally make a decision.

D'oh! Of course they are-how stupid of me-I assumed that since the MG ones also fit A55s etc. I forgot they're only four-stud!  How embarrassing!

@ Adam,

I've got 4 - 15" Rostyles here in, it has to be said, fairly manky condition that you're welcome to have a play with if you want to. No tyres on them, but you could pop some part-worn/scrap 205/65's on.

If nothing else, you could then have a look at the D post clearance issues for 15" wheels - but there are ways round that. :)

Give me a shout if you're interested - I'm in Leicester.

Me? Like many others, I went down the SD1 Vitesse 15" wheel route...so there's lots of info on here about them.
