Queries about oil presure sender

I've always had low oil presure on my gauge on my p6 3500S. As in zero when stationary after its warmed up. The oil light never comes on and I had a compression test and all is good so I am told the oil presure sender units are temperamental with age. Is it the oil presure sender unit that is responsible for the gauge reading? Also where is it in the engine for replacing it. I have also been told that re manufactured ones are also not so good and to try to find and original. Any advice on this would be very helpful thanks

It's right there :)

Compression test won't tell you anything about oil pressure, it's just for cylinder pressure

Hi
Does the oil pressure light work when ignition is turned on?
The original senders do play about over time but remember it is a electrical oil gauge and not oil pressure worked.
I manually check the pressure with a independent mechanical gauge to be sure.

Yes the light does come on. I have also had the oil pressure light on in very hit weather stuck in traffic at low idle very occasionally so I think and hope the engine is ok and it is a sender problem.

Some people say put a stronger spring in the oil pump. I haven't done the spring thing but did I put the longer oil pump gears in from the later motors e.g. SD1. My ign. light [P6b]was coming on at idle - fix it with the pump gear upgrade kit.

as far as aware any oil pressure warning light ought to illuminate when ignition is on . oil pressure then turning it OFF when a minimum pressure is reached. normally these are easy to replace. correct oil pressure can be checked by removing and fitting a flexible pressure pipe and a pressure gauge. we ought to see when cranking a slow..increase from zero. as engine idles it ought to stabilise. actual pressures will vary according to factors such as condition of engine.bearing.pump. relief valve pressure etc
will be higher when cold of course as oil thins with heat. it is the hot pressure at idle and at mid revs that is our concern. these engine can and do run with surprisingly low pressures but our worry will be if bearings etc are being lubricated sufficiently. we may? even find videos on our engines and data form other sources e.g. U tube. V8 owners club etc .plus various magazines .
