Rattling gearstick

The gearstick on my 3500S has started rattling at low engine speeds or high road speeds. It is most apparent when pulling at around 1500rpm, or driving above 50mph. There is otherwise no discernible vibration. My initial thoughts are that a prop shaft bearing is on the way out (can't check at the moment as it's raining heavily and the P4 is blocking the garage). Any thoughts?

It was/is a common problem. Worn selector striker levers, and worn selector rod bushes in the remote are often the cause, as well as how the lever itself is assembled. Worn prop joints won't help either should you find that to be the case.
