Rear Door Frame Rust

Since I bought my P6 in 1994, the rear offside door frame (behind the striker) has had a small patch of rust, around 2" x 1" which has been chopped out twice, repaired and resprayed, the latest repair being around 2 years ago. When the rust has returned, it hasn't come back with a vengeance, just a bit of minor bubbling around the same area.

It has come to the point that the car is now to such a good standard and has a quality clear over base 2K paint job, that I want to get this resolved permanently. What is the best way forward - secondhand door (unknown provenance?) or do I go for a re-skin to enable the old skin to be removed to allow full access to the inner frame from the front so that the rot that is inaccessible with the skin in place can be completely removed and replaced with good steel? If the re-skin option is the best one, where is the best place to pick up a new skin?

For door reskinning option, can anyone recommend someone who is familiar with door reskinning, and specifically with those of the P6?

Have previous repairs been done with fibre glass/filler only ?
I would have thought someone could cut out the affected area and weld in new metal
More chance of the door remaining a good fit this way

No, all visibly rusty metal was removed and new metal was definitely welded in; I saw the hole and then welded plate before it had a skim of filler. Apparently the construction of the rear door is such that all the rotten metal can't be removed unless access is gained from the front (i.e. skin is removed). Could anyone verify this? I have heard the same account from the bodyshop who did the work and also someone independent who owns a P6.

Yes, what you've been told is absolutely spot on. I'd have to take advice as to whether having the skin off could lead to a satisfactory repair, though. I'll pm you with my phone no for a chat.
