Removing door glass

Hi folks. Another plea for advice in my recommissioning project. For various reasons I’m removing the electric windows but I want to keep the sundym glass. But so far I’ve failed utterly to extract the glass from its very shonky old runner. Not even budged it. Any idea what kind of glue it might be? I’ve tried every kind of sharp object, and brute force, and am wondering about solvents. And when I find a new (non electric) runner, what glue should I use to glue it in?

They aren't glued in. They use a strip of rubbery material that swells after you rub a bit of oil on it before installing the glass. But after decades, the rubber gets really hard and stuck.

At least, that is meant to be the situation, if the cars been restored before things may not be as they are meant to be.

Yours

Thank you. I resorted in the end to playing a gentle torch up and down the runner’s length. The heat melted the rubber sufficiently for it to eventually let go without further fuss.

This is a job best done outdoors...
