Repair sill sections

Hi,

Our poor Road Rally car is beginning to look rather down at heal, in our ownership she's never been a show stopper but looking back at the "as pulled from the chicken shed" pics of some 5 years ago it's clear the poor thing has got a lot worse. I've been driving her as my daily now for a while and I have noted 2 things happening, I've re-fallen for the lovely way she covers ground and I've quickly tired of having to explain to people that she is in fact "lovely underneath". Time for a bit of a makeover I think

I've gathered a few panels over the years but still need to source a few more but for the moment I'd like to talk Sills. Our car was extensively, and very well might I add, patched down both sides before our ownership, it was part of what saved her from being weighed in. That was some years ago and time and the type of use she's been getting has not been kind so this work really needs redone. I don't want to (and won't) patch over patches and anyway I would like the whole thing a little neater as well. To this end I'd like to use repair sections rather than making my own, this is also driven by my lack of time!!!! I used to love hand making repair sections but work, kids etc..... just means I simply don't have the time.

I don't wish to run foul of the forum rules so I'm not asking for someone to review the panels available from Wadhams but I'd love to see pictures of any of their sill sections actually fitted. They have a diagram as such on their website but it's very hard to see any detail, ie how comprehensive are they? I think I pretty much need the lot for both sides so it's a reasonable outlay, I'd love to visit them and see them first hand but distance makes that tad difficult, not impossible as I'm in Birmingham from time to time, but difficult all the same. Postage to N.Ireland is also rather high so it makes economic sense to do the whole order in one go, big leap of faith without seeing the panels first.

Can anyone help me out?

Is Wadhams the only people making these sections?

PM me or reply to the post.

Thanks, Tim

Tim, I used one of Wadhams sill section to repair my TC and it was well made. It's designed so that it can be spot welded in with the D post and door steps removed but I chose to trim it down and overlap it rather than cut out the steps.

The only slight flaw was that the square holes for the plastic thread inserts were a touch too small for the inserts, but other wise it was good.

This is it in place. On hindsight I wished I'd overlaped it on the outside.

On my V8 I chose to just replace the lower edge of the sill so I got a local steel supplier to cut and bend a length of 1.6mm sheet (I put the stepped edge on it). They did four lengths for £15.

This is it in situ.

In summary if the corrosion is limited to the very bottom of the sill make your own, but is it's gone higher up around the pressings then get the Wadhams one.
