Replacing Front Engine Mountings

Does anyone have an easy way for replacing the front engine mountings on a 2200SC? It is looking like the engine and bellhousing may need to be split to allow enough upward movement of the engine to remove the mounts?

Infinitely superior apparently. I've had them fitted to Bruiser 2 but haven't got the car back as yet so can't verify them personally.
Demetris is a reliable chap though & l trust his recommendation.

Engine mounts (4-cyl)
I fitted them to mine years ago (also following Demetris' original post). I did about 10k miles on them and can also confirm they are a significant improvement. I also replaced the rubber bushes on the front stay bar, but the replacements I sourced (Classeparts, I believe) were really hard, and transmitted a lot of vibration until I backed off both ends as much as possible. I'd like to find a source of bush material for that as well if I can.

One thing to think about with the VW Golf gearbox mounts is that the holes in the inner wings need to be opened out about a mm. Sometimes you can be lucky and not have to do that, but worth being aware of it.

Good advice. I forgot about this until you mentioned it, but yes, I had to do the same. Oddly, the nearside needed opening up a bit further than the offside on my car. Not sure if it was the mounts or the holes that weren't uniform.

I knew about it because of @Demetris write up of the conversion. I had the engine out when I cleaned and respirated the engine bay a few years back. Did both to be sure while I had easy access.

I replaced mine in situ, but it must be 10 years ago now.
I'm currently midway through a major refresh of the car, so am replacing them again. Ten years under continual compression is probably their working life, so a new set came the other day.

Brings back memories! Blimey, 8 years ago for me now, maybe I should check them. 1688140441790.png
