Just came home to my Missus shouting at me that the house smell of petrol oops the joys of an integral garage. Fuel reserve tap leaking but man what a job I have only just manage to get it of after a lesson in the English language and less a few knuckles. Need a new one tomorrow but does anyone know of easy way to fit it
Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard,

You just need to replace the fuel resistant 'O' ring. Disconnect the operating wire, undo the little screw and withdraw the arm complete with 'O' ring. Fit new 'O' ring and refit arm.

There is no need to remove or replace the entire tap. The easy way to do it is to take the engine out first.

Ron.

Does anyone know the dimensions or size reference of the reserve tap 'O' Ring?
I'm thinking of getting a replacement in Viton to resist the (increasing) Ethanol content in fuel these days....

Sorry to bring this back up, but may I ask, how did you get the tap off? (ie did you move the engine, what tools did you use etc)

Because I have a 3500S with a seized reserve tap (so it needs to come off). This is easy on the 4 cylinder, but my attempts so far have proved this task to be impossible, without at least moving the engine.

Many thanks, Adam.

It may be awkward, but it's certainly not impossible. Think of it this way, if you were paying someone else to do the job, would you think it reasonable to have to pay the labour charges for them to move the engine to do it? I doubt it.

You need to remove the air cleaner assembly, and then perch yourself over the top of the engine to get the access you need.

It's not easy, but can be done. Usually, it will involve a bit/lot of various
shades of blue language and a desire for cold beer/good Scotch/tea/coffee
or your favourite de-stress medium afterwards.
