Rev Counter Needle

Am I right in assuming that the rev counter needle should sit on the '0' when the engine is not running? Mine presently sits as far before the '0' as the '5' is in front of it, which could explain my low reading at tickover. I have looked at loads of pictures and it looks as if they all start at '0' but suffer from creep and over time slowly move anti-clockwise!

Yes it most definitely should sit on zero. Why not remove the gauge and take it to an instrument repairman. I feel confident that what ever has worn or failed can be repaired or replaced and you will then have a tacho just like new...

I seem to remember there is a small pin stop on the face of the dial to where the needle is supposed to sit at rest? In which case the needle should go no further back than this pin.

Then again Alzheimers may be setting in. :?

The rev counter seems to work fine, it just starts too early. I have a spare from a 2000TC which I have looked at. There doesn't seem to be a stop pin on the face. The needle stops against something inside the gauge. If you move the needle around the gauge by hand, however, you can adjust it's position with regard to the face by adjusting its position on the spindle. That is what I will be doing!
