Reversing light switch

Hi all, I have a manual '72 2000sc with no reversing lights. I read the Haynes manual and the only reference made Is to a combined inhibitor/reversing switch on an auto box. I searched online for this on the forum and the reply said it was hiding under an access panel on the trans tunnel. My question is, on which side? I believe you need the fingers of a skinny eight year old to get to it also?

Thanks.

John

There's an access plate on the driver's side of the transmission tunnel (it's about a foot forward of the gearlever), and once that's removed you should be able to see if the wires are connected and if the actuator plate is operating the switch, but if you need to remove the switch I think you'll have to do that from underneath. Don't forget to check the fuses before you get in too deep.

Hi Harvey, thanks for the reply. Looks like another job for this Sunda, weather permitting!

All you can do from up top is confirm the wires are attached and slide back on if loose. The switch is very reliable, being well lubricated with oil  so generally if it doesn't work it's either the wires off or the operating tab on the reverse shifter fork had rotated around and no longer operates the switch. It's a PITA to remove and refit, BTW Just what you want to hear, I'm sure.

Yours
Vern
