Hello Gareth,

I can say that I have never seen the actual paint number for the Rover engine grey. I recall that it was once possible to purchase it in a spray can, but I don't know if that is still the case. :?

You could have a look around for a similar grey in engine enamel, one is bound to be fairly close, and once you have painted the rockers, elbows and inlet manifold, any difference will really no longer be noticable.

Paint your air cannister in gloss black too and your engine then will really look the business... 8)

Lets know what you find.
Ron.

Gareth,

I think Frost do a grey engine paint which, if you paint all the parts Ron mentioned above, will look as close to factory as possible.

A tin of black Smothrite and a tin of white mixed together came out OK for me
I've always wondered if the ribs on the cover are meant to be sanded to remove the paint and then lacquered over

I always get my rockers powder coated.

There is a grey which is a very close match for the original grey. I don't sand the ribs though as the are difficult to clean and oil spills etc spoil the look.

Wow, that looks good.

Are they able to mask off the inside so that you don't get powdercoat in the engine?

The Guy I use is very good (ESP glasgow).

I got the manifold, carb adaptors and elbows. They mask over mating surfaces etc but as the blast the bits you may need to write off any bolts fitted. The inside of the rockers got a dusting of grey but you can clean them out before refitting.

Most of these places have colour charts so you can pick it out. The cost of doing the rockers, carb adaptors, elbows, thermostat cover, inlet manifold was approx £130. The rockers shouldn't really cost more than £30 the pair. one thing to bear in mind is that when the metal is blasted you can get pock marks (little dimples) but this is only really if they are in poor condition.

Hello Arthuy,

The finish on the engine in your P5B looks outstanding..

I could not help but notice though, the oil filter is in a different orientation compared to the P6B. Does your engine have the original type oil pump front cover, or have you changed it for a different model?

Ron.

That was how the P5B engines were, with the oil pump cover orientating the filter to the side rather than forward on the P6B.
