I have a set of front discs from Rosinni.

When I touch the brakes I get a rapid ticking noise as if the pads are clicking when they pass over the grooves.

Is anyone alse getting this, got any experience of this, or is there something else which causes this noise and nothing to do with these discs?

It gets slower as the car gets slower, not related to engine speed, just the car speed.

Quite normal - it's the price you pay for grooved discs! The pay back is the ability to use Kevlar based front pads - EBC GreenStuff or RedStuff - which will transform your braking performance. Kevlar based pads make a lot of gas against the surface of the disc when under braking and the grooves are necessary to let it escape. If used on normal ungrooved discs these pads are no better, or even worse, than standard; on grooved the improvement in braking performance, especially fade resistance, is spectacular. Green is for normal road use, red is really for track use where the need to warm them up for full performance is less important.

Regrettably Rossini have also added drillings to the discs I've seen. With a solid disc this is completely pointless and only serves to introduce fracture sites to promote cracking. There is some point on a vented disc, but personally i prefer grooving.

It is reasonably common to find local machine shops that will groove your standard discs for you, avoiding the expense and cross drillings of the Rossini discs. Then you can enjoy the preformance of the Kevlar pads without any worries about disc fractures!

If you want to go even further Classeparts sell a vented disc conversion which uses the standard caliper spaced out to fit around a vented disc. Again grooving and Kevlar pads finish the job!

From memory the Rossini discs use only a small number of grooves (6 or 8?). I prefer multi grooves (12 to 16) which of course give a lighter and higher pitched sound.

Many thanks Chris.

I have been wondering what the noise was, and have had the car off the ground, wheels off, all the wings off, crawled under it, poked and prodded everywhere, twisted this, spun that etc. :x

It does detract from the general tranquility of driving a P6 though, and I have to wonder whether it is worth it for the upgrade from something I was always happy with in the first place.

They also grind, like they are worn to the metal, the first time you use them on a trip.

They are on green stuff pads at the moment.
