Following the birth of our first son, Elliot, in March this year, my Mrs has now commandeered the company car (Merc C220 CDTi) to ferry the little man around, given this has the Isofix seat fixings in the rear.
At the weekend, I picked up a genuine 60,000 mile diesel Rover 75 Classic on a 06 plate (last of the run) to use as a workhorse. I paid an incredibly low amount for it and the car is mint - the interior does not look as if anyone has sat in it! The bodywork is perfect apart from a small dent on the nearside rear arch (which could be easily rectified by the dent doctor). A driver's door seal is needed as this has a rip in it and a nearside door mirror has broken at some time and been treated to a DIY repair, but these are real minor niggles. I plan to get and keep the car to a good standard despite this being a daily driver; it simply is too good not to.
I bought the car in Birmingham and couldn't believe just how good it really is. The ride comfort and seating comfort is way ahead of that of the C Class Merc - the Mrs is welcome to it!
The point of the post is that the car drives great and looks great inside and out. Such a colossal shame that Phoenix/Rover finally got it together apart from the K Series engine before the final demise of the once great marque. The bellend known as Red Robbo sounded the death knell and through a succession of unimaginative, lazy and cowardly leadership (or lack of), we threw something that was simply far too valuable to throw, despite the general public's view of Rover as a brand.
I am now off to find a picture of Derek Robinson to pin to a dart board and throw darts at it.
