Rover 75 2.0 CDTi

Following the birth of our first son, Elliot, in March this year, my Mrs has now commandeered the company car (Merc C220 CDTi) to ferry the little man around, given this has the Isofix seat fixings in the rear.

At the weekend, I picked up a genuine 60,000 mile diesel Rover 75 Classic on a 06 plate (last of the run) to use as a workhorse. I paid an incredibly low amount for it and the car is mint - the interior does not look as if anyone has sat in it! The bodywork is perfect apart from a small dent on the nearside rear arch (which could be easily rectified by the dent doctor). A driver's door seal is needed as this has a rip in it and a nearside door mirror has broken at some time and been treated to a DIY repair, but these are real minor niggles. I plan to get and keep the car to a good standard despite this being a daily driver; it simply is too good not to.

I bought the car in Birmingham and couldn't believe just how good it really is. The ride comfort and seating comfort is way ahead of that of the C Class Merc - the Mrs is welcome to it!

The point of the post is that the car drives great and looks great inside and out. Such a colossal shame that Phoenix/Rover finally got it together apart from the K Series engine before the final demise of the once great marque. The bellend known as Red Robbo sounded the death knell and through a succession of unimaginative, lazy and cowardly leadership (or lack of), we threw something that was simply far too valuable to throw, despite the general public's view of Rover as a brand.

I am now off to find a picture of Derek Robinson to pin to a dart board and throw darts at it.

They are great cars... I have a very scruffy CDT tourer connoisseur which i paid very little for. I'll probably upgrade to a better example soon....

I've had my 52 plate 75 Conny Diesel Estate for about 2.1/2 years now, and it's been a great daily for me. Super-comfy, all the load space I need, and a great engine (BMW though! ). Champagne motoring on lemonade money.

Did have a loss of power about a year ago, but cleaning out the EGR was a quick fix.

Also, I usually dose each diesel fill-up with about 200ml of 2-stroke oil.

Have a look at the forum for some helpful and lively discussions, and tips.

Had my CDT 03 connie. tourer for 5 years best car i've ever had but currently needing some tlc :)

A nice car, but it has recently suffered from the dreaded clutch slave cylinder failure!

The slave cylinder on the 75 is located within the gearbox bellhousing, which means major surgery - n/s suspension leg off, subframe down and gearbox drained and dropped down. A nice man from the 75 forum came over and did mine for me for a very reasonable price and changed the clutch at the same time (which seems to have suffered from someone either riding the clutch pedal or revving it hard when maneuvering with the clutch just biting).

This is the case with most front drive cars now i believe? Certainly true of fords... Bring back the cavalier mk2 and the 1 hour clutch change...
