RV8 core plug sealant

Hi All

Triumph Stag is now running with RV8 power, but there is a leaking core plug behind an engine mount which needs to be replaced.

I'll use a sealant for the new core plug that's high temperature, resistant to anti-freeze and can fill gaps, probably one of these:

Hylotyte Red
Hylomar blue
Dirko HT red

Any hints and tips on sealants please!

I always used to use Red Hermetite (one of the very few instances where I would use it) and I never had any problems with leaks afterwards.

if fitting a new core plug ? I would use loctite . much depends on why seal is leaking ? e.g. pinhole? or corrosion on edge? if its edge corrosion then loctite isn't good enough as its purely for locking core plug in place . any corrosion on an edge will allow coolant ( especially under pressure ) to leak. so a proprietary leak sealer can be used if minor but probably better to check bore before fitting new plug. plumbers ant leak such as Red Hermetite can be good as also used on steam flanges . one might even consider body filler for corrosion /scores on bore for plug first. under stand they advertise it can repair a cracked cyl block!

Thanks for the replies.

Leakage was due to pinhole corrosion and seepage past the edge of the plug. The engine had been resting for a long time with an unknown history.
Dirko seemed to have worked, but I'll keep an eye on it.

(My understanding is that red Hermetite is now Hylotyte Red, certainly looks similar.)
