S1 V8 GRILLE WANTED...

Testing the water here, to see what's out there!..... as I am currently in negotiations for a mint S1 which is let down only by its grille and bonnet, so my final offer price for it, is dependent on me obtaining the parts I need, (and at what cost) in the condition I need them, to match the rest of the cars condition, which is truly excellent. Bonnet must be rust free and in excellent condition, paint condition and colour irrelevant of course. Grille must be as near as mint as I can get, not just any old S1 grille! In the unlikely event anyone has a NOS one, (or as near as!) I will be particularly interested. I will pay the right money for the right parts.

They can still rot though
I've seen a few with paint bubbles that have turned out to be full on holes from oxidation through all the layers of aluminium
So potentially harder to sort than a rusty steel panel, unless you just fibreglass it...

Yep, experienced that myself mate. It is common for people to think if you have alloy panels or an alloy car, that it will never rust, but they do. Take the old Range Rovers for example, alloy bodied, and they can rust terribly. The dreaded 'white rash' disease seen on many alloy wheels, and as you say, caused by oxidation, can also effect body panels. Of course the difference being, alloy body panels are much thinner than the alloy used on wheels, so it is quite common for it to go through. There are some good alloy craftsmen out there who can do wonders with aluminum repairs, but their work does not come cheap! Especially when they are melting aluminium and forming it for a perfect finish! Takes some work!

Re: S1 BONNET AND GRILLE WANTED...

Yes i know it can corrode , I was just pointing out it was aluminum as not everyone realises they are . They are not as bad as some panels on other cars as the bracing is the same metal , problems occur with dissimilar metals coming into contact . :D

Re: S1 V8 BONNET AND GRILLE WANTED...

A good bonnet has now been located (thanks Paul). Still looking for the best V8 grille I can find, then it's time to try and negotiate a deal on the car I need the parts for.... :!:
