S2 Wiper failure modes

Hi

I have the situation where the wipers do not work correctly. The following behaviour is observed:

Switch position -1 = labelled as delay but doesn`t work
Switch position 0 = off (I`m happy with that bit)
Switch position 1 = does nothing
Switch position 2 = does slow wipe
Push= wash (works fine)
The wipers do not park.

I have checked all terminals on the back of the switch and they are secure and the colour codes match the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual.

I have yet to check the wiper motor end of the circuitry. Does anyone know what I should be looking for in terms of a failure of this nature?

I think I'd take the motor apart and check the brushes and the self parking switch contacts

Sounds like the park switch on the rear of the motor would be a good place to start.

I would also check your wiper switch on the dashboard, these are suprisingly complicated, with contacts everywhere that have a habit of burning out or losing tension. That's what happened to my one, which gave all sorts of wierd wiper motor behaviour. The wiper motor commutator and brushes also glaze over and burn, which affects motor speed, especially under load.
