SD1 Vitesse wheels

Hi - Back again with another question (whoops!)

A while ago I posted somepictures of some alloys I had bought to put on my 2000TC, which were kindly identified as standard SD1 alloys.
I overcame the problem of wheelnuts eventually, but never got around to fitting them. Having identified but not bought the wheelnuts I was in two minds whether to fit or sell the alloys, but have now decided to go ahead and fit them.

I will need wheel centres ("hub caps") and so rang Rimmer Bros, who only had Vitesse ones in stock and thought they would fit so I ordered them, they arrived, they look great ..............but don't fit.
The centre hole in the Vitesse wheels is obviously smaller than that of the SD1 alloys.

I rather like the caps so I am considering keeping them and making up an alloy adaptor ring to fit in the SD1 alloys centre.

So my plea is - could anyone be kind enough to measure the hole in the centre of the Vitesse alloys, and perhaps even photograph the centre, so I can also see what depth adaptor ring as well as internal diameter I would need to turn up?

Secondly - who else should I turn to for genuine SD1 centre caps, in case I decide just to buy some more and return these?

Many thanks in advance,

Robin

Hi Robin,

Slightly awkward to get my caliper across the centre hole as the end of it just touches the tyrewall, but as best I can measure it, the centre bore is 57.75mm diameter.

The land before the groove is approx 4mm deep and the groove itself is 7mm wide.

As for centre caps, might be worth sending a message to Hugh (Chambers IIRC?) who sells a lot of S/H SD1 bits on ebay under the name room05. He's a helpful chap and good to deal with.

Hope this helps,

Hi Vaultsman,

Thanks for taking the trouble to measure your wheels and replying.

In a fit of enthusiasm I offered the wheel up again and realised why I had decided not to continue with them some months ago, the hub nut protrudes beyond the wheel casting and the Vitesse centres would not fit into a wheel even when modified to accept them.

I think I will abandon the idea again and sell the wheels - I also have some minilites which require some modifications to fit and would rather spend the time on those.

Thanks again - SD1 alloys going on ebay!

Robin
