Seating Capacity & Insurance

All,

I was chatting tonight with "Pilkies Classic Carnuts" and Forum member Dave Roan (Bigmoose on here) when he popped round to sort through some of his P6 stash that I'm storing for him. We were talking about seating capacity and what we are insured for. We were sure that it would say something on the V5 - which I'm sure back in the dim and distant past it used to say "4", but my current and previous V5 have the seating capacity blank.

Essentially, I have fitted rear seatbelts, and also put a lap-belt in the middle which would allow for 3 sitting in the back.

But ..... anyone know what the insurance position is on this? When the car was built, it was certainly sold as a 4 seater (although growing up, I was always the one in the middle in the back). But if it's not on the V5 - how are we supposed to know what it is today??

Interested in your opinions.....

Thanks,
Brian.

I am in NZ so maybe different here but I suspect as insurance companies are always the most cautious when it comes to potential litigation, they will only opt for a manufacturers recommendation or spec, unless you have an engineeering report that says different and even then I am sure they would disregard in favour of the safe manufacturers spec.

My insurance renewal has arrived (Footman James), so as I had a few questions, I rang them up and asked this one. I was put through to the Claims department (question wasn't on the help desk script  )and was told that I was insured for my passengers as essentially, these are passenger claims against me. However the number of passengers that I'm allowed to have is a legal one and only the Police would be able to answer that one.

Next stop the boys in blue then.......

.... and I've just telephoned Plod and their advice was to ask the MOT Tester !!!!
The police have nothing that they can look up to see how many passengers I'm allowed to carry, but if the MOT tester says that it's road legal, then they'd be happy.

Well it passed the MOT last time, but this time, I think I'll point it out to him and make sure that everything is Kosher.
