Hi, when was the series 2 launched and what was the first series 2 chassis number? Reason I ask is a few people now have seemed suprised when I have rang up for parts for my series 2 J reg..

Woo cheers, so 451 was the first series 2 V8. How many were they making a week? Presumably 451's chassis number would have looked like.....0000000451?

Ah right, so my car being about 3500 numbers in isn't that early afterall. Thanks for that. :)

The S2 was launched about Oct 1970.
Mine was 1st registered 11th June 1971 and chassis no is; 45106644A
I havent got a heritage cert yet to confirm the build date though!
It has just had its 40th birthday.

You say that but if out of a couple of hundred thousand there are only a couple of thousand of that exact model left, it's got to be one of the earliest surviving. Have you submitted your chassis number to rudiger's database? If you drop him a line he may be able to tell you how early it is. Other thing is to get a heritage certificate as that will give the exact date of build...

the first series 2's appeared at the end of 1069 and the beginning of 1970 on 'H' plates
KXC 675H a 2000 auto (Facelift) out of the factory 19/12/69
KXC 676H a 3500 manual (Facelift) built 20/12/69
KXC 685H a LHD 3500S auto (MK2) out of the factory 13/8/1969

Descriptions recorded as per the production records. None of these Series 2 cars were registered for the road until January 1970

I have submitted it to Rudiger as he asked me in a PM. I will get the heritage certificate for it in due course. It was a hire vehicle when it was new.

No 2500 is really quite early in production, Phil. Across the P6 range, I'd expect they would be building around 800 to 1,000 cars per week. I'd guess a split of around 225 SC, 300 TC, 300 V8, 100 V8S - Don't bite me Mark! Very Approximate! That would give you only about 8 to 10 weeks into production. That's pretty early in my book! I think I'm right in saying (?) that some of the cars Mark quotes are built well out of sequence, before the S2's really take off. Isn't KXC 676 H an engineering prototype?

Any chance you could send me the details as well for the 2012 P6 Census? Via PM or http://www.p6club.com/node/335

I am trying to put some accurate figures together for the total number of P6's surviving after the DVLA published there stats for Licensed and SORN'd vehicles.

Cheers

My car has the chassis number 45102324A, so I'm guessing its no. 2324 of the series 2 3500 autos, 1st registered 19th Jan 1971, so quite an early S2 too. 8)

Series II V8's start earlier than the four cylinders, IIRC it's 1st September 1970. The last Series I Three Thousand Five was 8th September 1970.

Series II 4-cylinders are a bit later than this and really didn't get going fully until November 1970.

It would be interesting to see, although I understand why people wouldn't want to post their chassis numbers, to see how close some of the P6's on here were to each other when coming off the line..

Well, on my database I have many numbers which are "very close to each other" :) But unfortunately the problem is that I don´t know if all these cars with similar numbers are still alive or in P6 heaven :(

Not long before I purchased Unbitrium (my current 2000 auto), there was another 2000 auto on ebay, in tobacco leaf - it had a picture of the V5c document, and the car was about 11 cars newer than my own. Number plate TWY721L, the engine of this car is about 50 newer than mine. Pretty close eh.

Cheers, Adam.

I had a series of NZ built 1968/9 2000 SCs pass through my hands a while back. Chassis numbers were 40201788, 1791 & 1797E. Also some V8 autos, 45302122, 2124 & 2134B. And I have a couple of 3500S' on my list 48200887 & 889D.
Lowest number I have come across was a s2 2000TC at a scrappy that was 44800002A!
