series one & two body panels

can the body panels from a series one fit a series two, I am thinking about doors & wings. I know that panels would have to be drilled to accept the chrome strips but it is the fitting I am concerned about. The car is 1972 2000 :

Yes!

In fact S1 panels are likely to be a better fit! Late S2 panels are notorious for needing a lot of fettling and "adjustment" to fit. Erik the Viking can give you more info on the detail of fitting replacement panels, but suffice to say it is either laughably easy or a complete nightmare and it's difficult to predict which before the event! It's possible that at the end of production the combination of tired tooling (Rover made far more P6's than the tooling was designed for), naff steel and Leyland quality control conspired to make wings, particularely rear, a very approximate fit. Getting doors hung right has always been an art form.

Thanks for the info, I was looking on ebay for suitable panels and I did not want to get a door or wing from a series 1 to find that it did not fit.
