Serious sagging taken too lightly?

Guten Tag zusammen

Only now I have asked around a bit concerning Jimmy sagging "a bit" on the front drivers side, which we noticed when storing him in december.

What I heard does not make me happy:
It could be "something serious" as the upper suspension arm might push through the spring cup.
Diagnosis AND cure involve, as far as I heard, the complete dismantling of Jimmy - well, at least the front wings AND DOORS :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?:
I do not mind so much taking apart the entire suspension, but the doors  ...
I did not have time to look it up in the reparation manual (that is laying in Jimmys trunk in his locked winter shelter), so I had a night of not-so-good sleep :?

Whats your opinion or experience?

Well, if the spings are original, then i wouldn't worry at all.
All P6s tend to sag a little through the years on the driver's side. It's in the nature of its suspension; heavy car, soft sprigs, long travel.
It only means that you need new springs if you want to rectify this, and often a pair of new rear springs (that are a doddle to change) is enough to restore the stance of the car. Now, changing the front ones is considerably more involving, due to the need to compress them safely (although there are some tricks around this). You certainly need to remove the front wings, and removing the front doors too will make your life easier. The latter is something so much easy on a P6 (it takes less than 5 minutes each actually, but they are really heavy so be prepared...) that i wouldn't even think twice about it.

Even if you do it only takes five minutes to remove one.

And now I notice that I do really fear to put the doors back in - they´ll have to be newly aligned, right :?: :?: :?:

I thought so a few months back. Hope that this is all there is to it.... :!:

The rear springs have been replaced by new improved ones in 2011.
I thought that the compressing of the springs is the crucial point - I got professional help with that, thank god!
Glad you put it down for me like this, THANK YOU!!

I´ll find out what is wrong in the run of this week, I´ll let you know !

Nope. The genius of the doors in the hinge stays in situ. Therefore the door goes back on perfectly or at least as perfectly as you had it before.

If you've ever cursed and sworn at doing this on other cars you'll sing the praises of Solihull.

Did you read this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17519

Every engineer should of course have a P6 to play with... Makes you wonder what never got past the accounts and marketing people.

Why don't all seats recline like a P6 for example? Why the stupid wheel designs that take forever to wind the seat up and down?

Sagging taken lightly RIGHTEOUSLY!!!!

...and not just your average German or British engineer:
I had the front wing off yesterday to examine the spring cup (- IT IS ALRIGHT :!: 8) :!: ) and it is just MARVELLOUS to work on this masterpiece of British engineering :!:
And also to have proven auto buffs standing in awe of the body and suspension layout  8)

I thought that most seats of the time do it like this?
