Hi Si,

Be prepared to be amazed by the amount of crud behind them!

Have a look at Rebekah's...about 2/3 down the page.

Ian's probably your best source as I believe Roly passed on his stock of parts to him. Roly will hopefully confirm or correct me on this.

Good Luck! :)

hi all,
just to confirm for everyone. steve and gloria S&G WALKER stock was passed to roly ( steve's stepson ) when steve passed away last year. i have now bought it all from roly. i have both side plates and gaskets. it is also worthwhile when doing this job to replace the small plate at the back of the engine as well.

Thanks for the link, that is quite amazing how much muck was clogged in there, had the car done many miles or is it previous owners not keeping the correct antifreeze. Do you think the job can be done without taking the manifold off ?

They are always silted up behind there, it's generally that silt that seems to make the plate corrode away. You will need to remove the carbs and exhaust manifold.

Isn't silt a result of using just tap water?
If you use a solution of antifreeze and distiled water and treat it as consumable i don't think that you will have problems.
If you change it every 2 years or so it won't break the bank!

Ok cheers, I thought I would probably have to do that. I received my manual yesterday so I can have a read up on it now

Oh ok, could be worth a try, I hope to buy the side plates shortly. I will post some pics of what lies behind in due course
