Side trim

Hi all. Does anyone know when they started fitting the trim to the side of the panels? I've got a set for mine that were removed from a similar aged car, but I'm not sure if it was meant to be there. Cheers.
 
They were fitted as standard on the 1971 model year onwards (from Oct' 70), the same type as the Federal 3500S.

But there was also an earlier slimmer version (like of us all!) of the strips fitted as an option on some export models.

the 3500's federal / NADA had them from when they were produced in 1968 as standard. the home market as peter said.

If your car has the metal grille & flat bonnet (S1) it shouldn't have them. If you have the plastic grille & power bulges (S2) then it should. Assuming it's a home-market car & it's as it left the factory.
