Spark amplifiers

I remember those. Had a little switch on the side so you could switch back to the points when it broke......

I remember my Dad having one he fitted to his slant4 ohc Vauxhalls. Haven't seen one in years

Apparently it's similar to the Maplin setup, using the points to control a transistor switch, saving the points from the full current of the coil. But it also stores charge and dumps that through the coil too, in theory giving it a little boost, in the instructions they claim you can open the plugs up slightly to benefit from the extra spark voltage.

Could certainly be a cheap option if it stays near that price!
I have read some less than encouraging things about that particular box elsewhere though..
But then there's good and bad things said about nearly everything on the internet
My money will definitely be going on the MSD Streetfire capacitive discharge box.
Great reviews across the board, adjustable rev limiter, under £100 w/warranty, made in USA rather than china etc, and its black/silver ribbed design matches my rocker covers so nicely

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's any good, I just remember it from my childhood. Also you could use the little light on it to set the static timing.

I'm sure any modern setup will be far, far better.

I had one on my 2000, one day backed the car out of the garage, left it idling for about 5 mins, while I closed the doors, locked up etc and I heard the car stop, went to try and start it and it cranked away but no go. Opened the bonnet flicked the switch on the unit and instant start. It is still there but not working, must get around to removing it!!
