speedo cable

Hi,

I'm looking for the parts number for speedometer cable for a P6 3500S (RHD) from 1973. I got 2 offers with different parts numbers and I don't want to take a chance. Anyboy can help with this? I'm here in Austria and lost without a parts catalogue.

Thanks Thomas

If you know any instrument repair shops locally you may be able to take the broken inner cable and they can make you a new one from the sample.

If you do buy a new cable then get one with both the inner and the outer, as the outer cable is not always the same length.

Make sure that the speedo and angle drive both spin freely. If they are very hard to turn then you will just break the new cable. Also make sure that there is no cable stub sitting in the right angle drive from the old cable, because if there is it will get pushed in when you install the new cable, it will engage enough to work, and then break within a few weeks.

Thanks for all that info. Really helpful need to hand it over to the mechanic. I'm not capable of doing it.
Got a new speedo and a new angle drive.

I also got GSD259 as a part number. What about this?

That is probably a Unipart number, whether it's the correct number for the cable you need I wouldn't know though.

Sourced a speedo cable only to learn that the original was still in order. The mechanic forgot teh angle drive and figured the speedo cable is somehow broken

Speedo works now.

Worth changing the cable anyway the inside can wear and give you a flickering needle.

Make sure the reason for failure is found, somtimes it is the speedo head being stiff.
