i'm afraid i'm another useless mechanic. i just replaced all the brake shoes and now i have an awfull squeal from the front. The shims broke as i was taking them out. will new shims stop the squeal?
Did you leave the broken shims out? If so that will definately be why they are squealing. As Rovering member suggests copper grease will stop the noise but in my experience without the shims it will be impossible to get rid of it completely.
