Starter motor woes

You sure you didn't watch " A Cold One In Alice " too many times over Christmas Harvey

Is that the same as "Ice Cold In Alex"?

I'd forgotten about that. Probably where Rover got the idea from...

To move the car by cranking by hand if the engine or something else is in a failed position. Like I said a guess

The example used (IIRC) was that if you're traversing a river (as you do...) and you soak all the engine electrics so it all comes to a halt midway, you select first gear and Low Range, and then turn the starting handle to crank yourself back to dry land, so I'd say you were pretty much right on the money.

You'd get your brogues wet!

One has One's chauffeur do it, obviously.....

Thanks Harvey and Ron.

Crikey, all flooding back now! I had forgotten about the 3M100 with triangular shaped brushes!

I also didn't realise the 3M100 was smaller...

I'm almost certain our old 1972 2000Auto (and yes, I'm well aware this is the V8 section!) had an M45.G type starter.
