sticking brakes

can anyone solve this.when brakes are applied and then released they tend to stick on.if i stop on a slight incline they release on there own due to the weight of the car pulling it down hill.they only stick on very very little, also after about half an hours driving in traffic there is a loud noise from the brakes when applied it is not a squeal.i have checked the front brakes and they seem fine.all four calipers are new with new pads, brake servo and master cylinder.any ideas where to start.cheers steve ???

The problem may be the reaction valve in the servo sticking. If you remove the white plastic cover that sits on top of the servo cylinder body and remove the reaction valve diaphragm you will see the end of the valve. If you get someone to push gently on the brake pedal you'll see the rod start to move. Don't worry if it comes all the way out, put a small amount of rubber grease on it and work it out a few times before reassembling the diaphragm and cover.

Have a look in the manual first to get an idea of the layout of things.

If you are weary of touching the servo.

When the brakes stick on, try switching the engine off and see if this makes a difference. If it does then it is the valve as described by ian and BB.

I had the same problem when I rebuilt the servo and brakes, I had manage to put the valve together wrongly. Only took me 3 days to figure it out.

Can you tell which corner its coming from? It might be the caliper sticking (it was on mine with the same problem after a rebuild) and a touch of copper slip grease on the side of the piston freed it up. While obvioulsy making sure none went on the pads/disks

:p

hi steve
you dont make mention of new flexi brake hoses, so if they havnt been replaced i would strongly recomend you check them for restrictions inside. i to had sticking rear brake calipers and found the hoses almost completely blocked allowing fluid under pressure to apply them on and taking ages for the fluid to return, to let them off.

checked the servo lubricated the valve went to bleed the system rear disc covered in oil b-----ks looks like easter hols taken up.

Make sure you remember to take your smartie-filled Easter egg under the car with you. Much easier than wriggling out everytime you want a bite......... ;)

turns out one of the unions was loose how this came about remains a mystery anyhow cleaned down all rear assembly nipped up union bled system no leaks and no sticking but i have one query under hard braking the rear wheels lock up is this the norm
cheers steve
