sticking valves

What are he symptoms of a sticking valve. I dont have a compression tester to give me an indication .I dont have any back firing through the exhaust
 
Depends where it's stuck, (if it's moving but not closing fully for example) but I'd say a misfire, tappet noise and uneven running for starters. If it was stuck wide open then I think it will be bent now if you've run it like that.
 
for quite some time I'v had a problem where the car starts and runs great at all speeds but after about 15 miles it starts with an odd mis at tickover and then gets so bad it wont move without stalling. even then if reved hard its ok. For a long time I thought the carb was sticking when hot, so I'v had a spare carb rebuilt and is waiting to be replaced.I am sure its not electrical because it is ok at load and speed.

From that description it won't be a valve sticking. It sounds heat related, so more like a coil or condenser breaking down.
 
I would agree exept as soon as I get the car going the fault clears with no problems until I get to tick over again
