cheers

Is the fan belt tight enough ?

How can you check if the water pump is working correctly, if you have the radiator cap off and rev the engine can you see the water flow on a 4 cylinder ?

Are there any water ways in the cylinder head / inlet mainfold that can be checked to make sure they are clear

Look for any large variation between the compression of the cylinders. A tight new engine will give about 200PSI (TC version). You would expect lower numbers as the engine wears.

The Rover Manual quotes 170 psi minimum for a 2200 SC. Make sure that you measure with the motor warm, and with the throttle fully open, and a fully charged battery. As others have said look more at the evenness of the numbers, rather than the actual numbers themselves. They should be within 20 psi. You numbers might be a bit low, but that may be due to the type of compression tester, or your starter motor being a bit worn.

James.
