Summer must be close.

Had to pull over whilst out on Sunday in my TC to remove the cardboard blocking off half the rad

Got a few clonks and bonks develpoed over the cold spell, too cold to investigate up till now :p

MOT soon, so will start working my way round the rest of it

Mmmm when it's your own car it's amazing how bad you'll let it get before sorting it all out

Front Discs and pads done :)

Steamed off the engine to find the recent oil leak is from the back of the head :( Probably the 'O' ring, more like 'Oh' as it runs nice and I'd rather leave the head on whilst I have so much work on :x

Steering box swap needed too, as it's like trying to guide the Titanic round an iceberg at the minute

Head gasket done, and yes it was the little git of an 'O' ring causing my oil leak (read flood)
Steering box also swapped so it also goes in a straight line now :)
On a down side noticed the NSF top swivel is toast so thats added one to the list

Yeah I'm glad it was the top one
Top swivel done, took two attempts as the holes weren't drilled in the right places and needed help. :D

Rear brakes stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with all new rubbers 8) My handbrake now holds

Gearbox oil changed while I was there and flushed the clutch fluid with the vac tank. Amazing what came out  Seems lighter now too :?
I did notice my harmonic damper was in the wrong place  Done up tight and not much use there IMO
Anyone seen one here before? :?

The rubbers were too gone to fit in the usual place so I took it off (never done that with one before) and it drives fine :|

Nice Beetle in the background there, interesting colour too. Keep the spanners turning and hopefully see you out on the road somewhere.

Ok here's where my lack of knowledge of these cars rears its head :?

Now I know about harmonics and about the value of damping them, but exactly where should the harmonic damper be fitted?

These are the sort of things that I rush out to check and mine is fitted somewhat further forward than your picture shows.

Cheers

Dave

True, they should be fitted further forward to be able to damp something, but their exact position was specified at the factory using specialist equipment etc.

I don't know if it is possible for someone to position them properly now.

They normally sit right at the front just behind the front mount. There's casting marks where it should be and it sits on rubbers. As far as I know that is the only place it should be unless someone knows otherwise :|

I'm thinking this one broke, slid along, and some muppet tightened it in that position years ago

I know they have a great following but I had to go home in it the other night (10 min journey) and that was far enough for me :( It's waiting for the welder to be free although it's only upper body stuff. It's a really solid example :)
I like being able to drive all different stuff, but happy to give most of them back to the owner

Almost ready, I think :|
New stainless steel wipers bought and fitted.
Changed that annoying noisy flasher relay on the indicators that was too fast and sounded cheap and nasty too. Nothing to do with MOT, just hated it
Found a clonk at the back was the shock rubbers had turned to dust, easy fix :)
Found another joint with wear on the O/S/F that was moving about. Fitted another bottom link strut to sort that out.
Hopefully get her in for a test in the next few days :D

Fitted some really good condition front seatbelts as they were getting a bit frilly round the edges :)
Finally took her for MOT so all done for another year 8)
I did spot one or two little things to add to my list of must dos, but no rush now :|
Hoping to find time between paid work to prep the spare panels for paint now :D

We'd better celebrate with a picture of the car now then! How about it?

Chris
You'll have to make do with the snow centre spread from the club magazine (or somewhere on here in a snow pics thread) as she's not looking her best hence needing a repaint
I didn't mind the snow pics as it was quite flattering :D
Far too embarrassing as is, people tend to think it's rat look

Well summer is supposed to be close here in upstate New York! I got my Rover out from the storage spot ready for the summer driving. Brake fluid had leaked out over the winter, so I had to do a bleed. I guess I better do something about that leaky caliper. Then drove it up to where I live, from the shed on the rental property. It is now snowing over the roads I drove up yesterday, and is about 3 degrees outside. I was a nice 27 degrees last week and sunny. You got to love the spring weather here.

James.

Yep, wrap up warm, get a nice heater pointed at you and sort them out :) If you drop the diff like in the pics in this thread you don't even need to remove shafts/discs and you can even take the calipers into the house to do with warmer fingers  They only ever get worse :(
Or you can wait for the weather to break and then attack, that's what I did :D
