Sundym glass

Hi

Is it possible to retro fit a set of sundym glass to a series 1 2000sc??? The only issue I can see is the rear door opening quarterlights as I believe series 2 cars these were fixed. Any advice would be welcome as I have at least a complete set plus extra rear windows/screens in a load of parts I just bought.

cheers jamie

No problem fitting sundym to a series 1.
S2 all had opening rear 1/4 lights it was only a 1 yr thing on about 69/70 S1's when they were fixed!
Just swap the complete door window glass frame and mechanism, its a lot easier than trying to just swap the glass!
Early S1's had front opening 1/4's on a catch until the intro of the turn knob.

Hello,
You will probably have to change the front door frames. The front quartelight top hinge on the frame is a different design on Sundym cars. It is a much smoother, swept back style of hinge which means that the corresponding hinge on the quartelight is shorter.
Roly.

I don't think that is a Sundym/non-Sundym issue, I think it's more likely to be an age issue. I just compared my '67 (Sundym) and '68 (clear) cars and the q'lights are the same.
Our 'S' has Sundym from a '75 car and has the smoother top hinge but I have a spare door frame with clear glass and the smooth hinge from a '74. My guess is that they were modified as a safety feature to minimise protrusions, probably in '74 as I don't recall that hinge on '73 cars I've owned.
However, Sundym became standard on V8s in the UK from '74 so that is probably the most commonly available.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. It's good news that I can change the glass over. As I have the doors etc with the glass came then I have all the frames etc which are mint so I should be able to work out the best way to carry out this little mod.

cheers :D
