Suspension height

Trying to get to sort out the suspension on my car and having trouble working out what the correct suspension heights should be.

According to the Haynes manual my car is 2" to high at the back and 2" to low at the front. Seems a little hard to believe as it definately looks too low at the back if anything.

Been measuring from ground to suspension pick up points as per manual (Haynes) but as a quick check could someone who is confident they have a car with reasonably correct suspension heights give me a ground to top of wheel arch for front and back.

Perhaps someone also has some accurate service figures from an official Rover manual.

i'll go measure all 3 cars I have tonite - all I suspect on orignial springs and let you know the results!

measurements taken from centre of wheel hub to bottom of wing, but vertically, not outward to the actual wing!
All 3 cars virtually the same, all in mm and approximate!
Car Wheel
NSF NSR OSF OSR
2000 370 202 370 204
V8 365 202 355 202
V8 330 185 332 180

Note 2nd V8 does sit lower than other 2 espicially at back.
I'd tkae the V8's with a pinch of salt as they were sitting in drive - its not that level! but 2000 was in garage which is fairly flat!
Maybe we should have a survey on the forum?

Interesting stuff mine are:

OSF 370
NSF 380
OSR 210
NSR 225

I'm going to check the rear figures again as I wasn't measuring exactly perpendicular to the wheel so they are a bit higher than the true figure.

I've got another set of springs to go on the back next week which are much heavier but have more working coils. (More working coils = lower spring rate for equal guage spring wire)

People keep telling me it looks to low at the rear but it doesn't seem far out. Checked a differential to ground clearance figure of 216mm supplied by Zebedee and if anything slightly higher.

Thanks for doing that for me it gives me and idea that i'm not a million miles out.

PS 15*6" Superlites arriving next week!

maybe you have a low rear for easy loading??

Factory manual spec's diff ground clearance as 8 inches so your within 1/2"

:)

MY REARS ARE 240MM AND FRONTS 350MM IT HAS NEW REAR SPRINGS .THE STANCE OF THE CAR LOOKS HIGH AT THE BACK AND LOW AT THE FRONT.OTHER CARS I HAVE SEEN LOOK LOW AT THE BACK HIGH AT THE FRONT?ODD THAT.

Well just fitted heavy duty progressive rear springs (thankyou Jeff at ray Weekly)
Massive difference - 50mm higher at the rear now! - I can actually see the horizon via the rear view mirror instaed of just the road!

Good news Fenton. What's you wheel centre to arch measurement now (or diff clearance)

I'm going to refit my estate springs for the mean while but I think at some point in the future I'm going to change the fronts and backs for new as it's sitting a bit lopsided.

Im approx 215mm at the rear now (wheel centre to wing). A lot better than before - I do expect a bit of settling over the next week or so.

Mines 245/260 at the rear now and it's still bloody wonky. About 3/4 inch high on the passenger side.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and change the front springs for new to even it up and get a set of HD rears as well.

Really didn't want to change those front springs but I'll just have to get on with it.
