Tacho - Again

Hi everyone

It seems the tacho in the P6 is a popular topic here!!

The issue with mine is that it won't go past 1000 rpms, regardless of what the engine is pulling, and at other times it won't work at all. Its an RVC type and I've had an instrument technician look at it who said it tested up fine and there was nothing wrong with it. Our car doesn't have electronic ignition fitted.

I've tried the oil on the spindle trick too, cleaned all the electrical terminals at the back, and tried tapping the gauge itself but nothing works and it won't function correctly.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

Mine didn't go past 3k no matter how much i stepped on the pedal. After meddling with the wires, I realised its the unit itself that is faulty and was confirmed by Al. So I changed it today and now it is working much better than before. Can you get access to a spare coil tacho at all? Might be worth testing it on that and see what you get.
