Tapping top end

Hi Stina,

You could always take the Rover to a transmission place, see if the chap who set up your carbs can recommend one. If the downshift cable is correctly adjusted and it is still misbehaving, then.....

Hi guys .
A bit of an update , and a bit of advice required .
I have covered about 600 miles since engine work . Running nice with carbs set up . Kick down working o.k .
The drip tray has a small amount of transmission fluid when the car hasn't been used for a few days , i'm not over worried as the level in the box doesn't drop drastically . I also suspect it looses a little engine oil from the back of the engine ( crank seal ) My husband pushed it forward to work at the bench today , so it was not over the tray . Their was a small spot of oil on the floor below the bell housing . No more than an inch diameter ( over about 6 hours ) i think two or three drips soaked into the concrete . Is this something to live with , or to investigate further ? The oil level hasn't dropped noticeably in 3 months . The breathers are clear . No sign of a drip when she's running . Any thoughts appreciated .
Cheers stina

When I first started using him. Lucky leaked like the Torrey Canyon from the front crank oil seal, the rear crank oil seal and the back of the box and perhaps the front of the box. There were bigger fish to fry in the suspension at the time, so I grinned and topped at regular intervals. After about 2,000 miles all the leaks tightened up. It's not completely oil and fluid tight at the moment, but I'd far rather have a slight leak than a dry and corroding engine, box and underside.

Hello Stina,

I wouldn't worry about the little drips. There is not a lot you can do apart from the obvious, so best bet is just enjoy driving. The distance that you have covered so far, if you could put a few thousand on the clock by year's end, that would be excellent. You may even find the drips largely clear up, as Chris indicated with his.

There is no reason for it to drip, I had about 20 years of no oil drips either engine or trans, but now I am finding a few oils spots mainly due to my petrol pump gasket being a bit dodgy as it was a hasty fit when I put the pump back on. Ideally you want to clean the block and then wait to see from whence the offending drips appear from then reseal those points.

Hi guys
I did all could when i had the motor apart , gaskets , seals etc and am happy with what i've done . I don't want to take the motor out just to do a rear crank seal if it will go on like it is for a few years . Thanks for your thoughts . I'll keep an eye on it all and rumble on for a while .
Cheers stina

Hi Stina, what did you do to get oil flowing to the head? Reason I'm asking is my rockers look dryish under the filler cap. I don't know if that is normal? I don't like oil flushes but what do you recommend? I have bought some millers oil and was planning on changing it tonight.
