Temp Gauge

Well the temp gauge doesn't work - I pulled the lead, earthed it, turned on the ignition still no movement. Am I correct in thinking this means that it is the gauge itself that is at fault ? If so, can anybody recommend a supplier - are they easy to obtain?

Thanks

That would point to a faulty guage, which isn't common, it's mostly the senders. Round clock or strip speedo guages should be available secondhand without problems I would think. I'd be inclined to check the supply to the guage first, it could be the voltage stabiliser. Is the fuel guage working? Was it a good earth?

I know its a daft one but I remember going through all this when I first got my SC.The temp guauge did not work and I was afraid of it overheating and worse. I went for wrong sensor and bought a new one-did not work, a second hand strip speedo( which you are welcome to) and a new themostat sensor-also no effect. In the end and after a lot of checking I found a wire which looked complete ,but on further inspection had worn away some of its insulation, and shorted out. Bit of cleaning, new insulation and works a treat!

I've seen failing alternators to effect gauges. Also the few weeks run up to when my old engine went bang it never seemed to warm up that much. The rebuilt engine using the same wiring shows correct temp readings, so it could just be running cold for some reason.
