The best custom p6!

Now that I would like to see built. Jetski ? a hydrofoil sytem would be good, after all the p6 at release was touted as a modern high speed executive cruiser and what could epitomise that more than a high speed hydrofoil for the new rich.
That sugestion certainly got me thinking

Graeme

I do try sometimes :)

Cant draw worth squat, and no idea about the computer manipulation, but it would be a road car incarnation of the Rover racer...luxo inside with redesigned front seats for less weight/more support, but keep the essential shape...more courtesy lighting, particularly for back seat passengers...double glazed windows...MAYBE smoothed around the turret and doors for minimal wind noise. Keep the flares and spoilers but have them more integrated...as if they were always meant to be there...keep the Minilites...
* Sand filled firewall (without adding TOO much weight)
* Entire base unit coated with "Noise Killer"
* Optimised front suspension pickup points.
* L.S.D of course...De dion could stay.
* Keyless entry, power windows, boot release
*Biggest brakes I could stuff underneath it...rears remain inboard
* Carbon fibre body panels/or alloy...or maybe even that trick plastic that Renault use in the old Clio cup (prob still use it, I'm not up with it)...whatever was lightest yet offered the least resonance/drumming
* 50/50 balance and corner weighted
* 6 speed manual
* Strengthened base unit where necessary as per computer analysis and track testing...increased torsional rigidity.
Oh...and this motor...

Here we go. I am a huge fan of the P6 just as it is, and I don't think David Bache could have done much to improve it. I also don't know that it suits the 'super-smooth' custom look either so i'm inclined to keep it fairly standard in that respect but i've always loved 'phantom' cars. Body styles never produced by the factory, so I thought i'd combine 2 of the phantoms and build a P6B shooting brake.

Bodywork is pretty much standard apart from the obvious door adjustment. Doors are pillarless but the main centre pillar is retained and the rear side glass pops out at the back using a rear q'light catch. Badges are removed, nada scoops and police spoilers fitted. I've kept the UK spec bumpers though as the nada ones are a bit bulky. 15" Rostyles (maybe Jensen ones with a 6" rim), lowered a bit all round, Sundym or maybe a darker tint. 3.9 efi V8 and 4 speed auto, Rover 800 coupe seats (so they flip forward) Probably a vinyl roof and maybe a large glass sunroof too. Colour? Probably something light, maybe something from the Rover 75 paint book. Now that i've drawn it, I really want one! :D

Ok Im back I appologise for the crude drawing but I hope members can get the gist of it, so just to explain my idea it's an amphibious p6 so side panels are one piece, no doors so you will have to jump in like a boat. Obviously the engine bay is water tight and exhaust out the bonnet very loud haha. Once in the water would work on the jet ski principle. Any way probably not viable but it just popped into my head have fun :)

Guy...... That's cool, but it does remind me of the Citroen Ds Soft top. Or is that just me?

Nice drawings kiwirover 8)

Jim you've made me take a another look and I think I can see where your coming from on the DS, so you have made me try and draw it at different views to try and show the shape more.... Again appologies for the crude drawings but I don't think they look as bad on paper as the do as photo's but its the only way I can upload them

On the side view I've tried to show the shape of the front. Its designed to be areodynamic and also when the fronts up in the water to help in glide along so you can have as much fun on water as land. On the rear view I've mounted the spare in a solid casing partialy moulded into boot lid. In the front view ive tried to show the slopping front as best I can but not sure that it does  as you can see I've named my prototype P6Ki thought it was catchy  and said right goes with what I said on my other post with my first drawing.

Surprisingly hard to get a vision out your head onto paper with out the technology maybe I should see if I can buy some plastercine clay and mould a 3d one... :?
Now I'll wait for your comments, all welcome.

Needs a Ski pole for the water skiers or a socket for one, also a means to get to the speeds required for that sport.

Graeme

Al, that looks absolutely georgeous. I want one too! I reckon you could go frameless to good effect there too - would obviate the need for the daft window frame in the estate bit.

Brilliant idea Guy,
But shouldn't a ski boat/car have some bikini clad models draped over it?

Yeah two nice blondes sitting in the back with there hair blowing in the wind

John.

Thanks for the comments guys, my creative side has taken me over and I have designed and drawn a prototype perspex and ali roof with gull wing doors in a coupe style to go on the p6ki for those cold wet days we have often here. What do you think?

edit; John may be I'll try my hand at drawing some of them girls for you

thunderbirds are go
You could always draw lady penalope in the back and parker up front
But i do like it alot 8)

Roof as well, it gets better by the minute.
Guy it's a good job you don't live near Northern Soul, as the the combination of your minds could be very dangerous indeed
A phat p6ki...........

John.

Looking good Guy, though i'm not sure about the wisdom of a forward mounted air intake scoop on a boat!
Chris, i'm not sure about removing that pillar. The estate already has a thinned out C pillar I wouldn't want to compromise the strength too much.
I found these while skimming through my photos, completely forgot i'd done them. First attempts at playing with paint on the computer.
One day I will build a Graber coupe replica and my TC is just the car for it:

and I tried a few variations on my V8 too. First was the basic Graber style coupe and a convert:

And then with a longer door and moderate roof chop:
