The new Pilkie?????

Hi all,

I am now committing myself to becoming the new Pilkie :D :D :D Full respect to you oh Great one!!

Or at least I will give it a crack!!

As you may know I have a 1976 3500, a 2001 75 Estate and I have just swapped my 1966 Mustang for a 1965 barracuda.

Well this little beasty just popped up on the radar and I just couldn't say no!!

A 1972 P6B with A/C and electronic ignition, no rust to worry about, lovely interior and enough promise to show some concern for its survival.
Much to my wife's disgust I just had to say yes. :D :(  :? :x :p    :|

RT.

Evening All,

The wheels I believe to be from an SD1, but I stand to be corrected.

The car appears to be a bit spooky, a little bit "Christine". As I drive it a few of the niggles appear to be fixing themselves!! Indicators haven't worked for ages along with the interior lights according to previous owner. Drove home and they now work  Along with the radio too!! If I drive long enough maybe the mileage will go backwards and the engine will rebuild itself........ :D

Just a couple of issues spotted so far: 1. Sloppy gear selector. I think it's the nylon cup at fault so have ordered one. 2. Very heavy PAS. May need a bleed of the system or adjustment of the steering box :?: :?:

What are your thoughts?

RT.

Good luck with your new toy RT.
If it has been laid up for a while it will take a while for things to start to work properly again,or for things to go wrong,am sure you will have both happen!!
As long as its all there and solid, its a good rolling resto project!
I must say though that the ORIGINAL Pilkie would never have an american car,of any age,and knowing an ex owner of a dreadfull 75,,I wouldnt have one of those either!
BUT somebodys gotta love them! :)
At least you compensate by now having 2 proper cars!!

Series 2 SD1 alloys.. not bad on a P6, but I prefer the series 1 alloys personally..

Your wife's disgust? You should have seen the look on my wife's face when I bought my 75. What's worse, I've now got a second 75...

Actually it's a wreck, bought for parts. But its permitted time on the driveway is getting shorter and shorter. I can feel warm breath down the back of my neck, and I can't see my wife in front of me...

Dear me Warren! What on earth persuaded you to do that? I thought that 75 of yours looked perfect?

By the way - you really should confess your 75 sins on here - we're not so stuffy as not to appreciate a nice motor.

Chris

  Two 75's   Oh no yu have got it bad  I can see you living outdoors soon

I do apologise, Chris. With the P6 still lurking under a plastic cover in the back of Dave's paint shop and the 75 consuming my time, I've been mostly lurking on the 75 forum at MG-Rover.org. Still looking in here to see what's going on, but haven't had a great deal to contribute.

Alas, no car is perfect, and a 12 year old Rover was bound to have its faults. The wreck came up at an opportune moment, and has proved to be a cheap way of addressing a number of issues, such as the damaged lacquer on the (real) walnut dash, the non-functioning central locking on the right rear door, the damage to the parcel tray where the nodding dog was glued in place...

Plus I've been flogging parts on TradeMe and have already made back more than half my capital outlay!
