The royal wedding bank hol scam!!!

Hi Dave, I'm on the other side of the fence to you, & originally thought that all employers would end up out of pocket like I will, because the government think we all want to celebrate!

I didn't think that many employees would lose out, but after reading the .gov.uk info & your own comments, it looks like they might if they have less favourable contracts. Our staff obviously have good employers!
I have the fullest sympathy for both employees and employers who are going to loose out financially, its bad enough a business closing for the day and loss of sales.
Sadly it seems its another govt who is not in contact with reality!

Yes...apparently over 80% of our politicians have not held a position outside authority....

That's no surprise to you in these days of career politicians, surely Phil!
Being self-employed I might work the day or might not. It depends if there's any going on that particular day & if there is then I'll get the Sunday rate as it's a bank holiday & if there isn't I'll get nothing.

Well as I have been forced to take the day off,,,hopefully!!,round about then,I should of had the P6V8's spare panels painted, refurbed the seats, and recovered the roof and webasto,so I will have an extra day of putting it back together!
Much more fun than watching another of the royals getting hitched!!!
I wonder how long it will take him to follow in his dads footsteps!

I tend to think that with the uk having very little going for it anymore , and its a dog thats had its day and just waiting to be finished off . anything we have left which isnt much should be enjoyed so im pleased and even though i will lose money im all for a royal wedding. lets face it the so called Great Britain is well gone.
regards
marcus :?

anyone got their invite yet?

oh no hang on we wont get an invite because we are scum, scum that keep the country going thats all.

Im lucky I get the day off, and I do feel sorry for the people who get an enforced unpaid days holiday, but don't worry we'll be holding a street party if anyones interested, might roast a few swans on the BBQ!

Under the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 bank holidays are proclaimed by a royal proclamation to us the subjects. So everyone is stuck with it whether they like it or not.

Reading the previous postings it seems that some of their subjects are revolting. This is of course not unusual and indeed something that in the past has often been considered to be the case.

For example as far back as the fourteenth century at the time of the Peasants Revolt the then King was told "the Peasants are revolting". My old history master joked that the King had always thought that they were revolting (scum). Touch of Blackadder here!

On another tack I saw a cartoon somewhere recently picturing Camilla saying that she is the ideal person to advise the young couple on their forthcoming marriage ceremony as she has been married twice!

Great sick bag John.

Cheers

Tony

Always amazed me that Camilla's 1st husband Peter Parker Bowles put up with Charles sh*gging his wife
What's the betting he was paid off ?

That sickbag design gives me an idea for toilet paper....

I'm one of the lucky ones that will be paid for another bank holiday. We also close through christmas and new year, although this is taken from our holiday entitlement, I love it.

Being the IT manager means I'm basically on call 24/7 ensuring websites are up etc, I've often had to sort problem whilst on holiday, and come in 2-3 in the morning, basically you can never switch off. So the times when the whole company is closed are the only times I can really switch off, xmas being the best.

I guess you can try to choose the company you work for (sometimes anyway), I could earn probably 5-10k more working in the centre of Leeds for a bigger company (and have had the odd offer), but the additional stress and pressure just isn't worth it. (Don't tell the wife though, she'd soon spend the money on more shoes and handbags)

I don't mind some of the royal familly, I think it's one of the few things that still makes this country special. It's the politicians that really screw stuff up, but that's the problem with democracy, they're all too busy trying to get voted back in to actually do any work.

I distinctly remember the additional "bank holiday" when Charles and Diana got married. I was paid for it then, as was my girlfriend of the time, in fact I was under the impression everybody was, rightly or wrongly. Perhaps there was a few more bob in the kitty then. I'm working it this year, though.

It seems (you may have noticed too) that the Royals always put on a big wedding with day off for the country when there's a recession on. .....1. Charles / Diana 1981- recession ! 2.....Princess Anne / Captain Mark Phillips 1973 -recession/3 day week/ power cuts! A tonic to the harder times, perhaps.?

I feel very sorry for the couple, actually, especially for the young lady, who strikes me as very charming. All this build-up , huge publicity, which will be a heavier burden for them as time goes on . The press will not leave them alone for one minute. You would have thought we would have learnt our lessons from last time..(his parents, mother in particular.) yes , it's history repeating itself.

I've certainly become more "Royalist" these days, than I was in 1981. I look at it, that they don't choose to do "their duty" but it is expected of them because they were born into it.I think , our Queen has been great considering all the crap she's had to put up with. Whereas , politicians I've lost loads of respect for over these last few years., a career they chose themselves. Over-paid jumped up kids, bowing down to political correctness, on excellent salaries/ pension schemes and then on top, they can "claim " for the cost of the "bog paper" they speak into, half the time......... ridiculous!!

As "James Bond" (Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye ) said, "Different politicains, same lies.."

I suspect that they do have a choice - Edward 8th being a good example. Essentially, when you are loaded with money (good chunk of which comes out of our pockets), you might find that you have lots of options. The biggest problem being which option to choose?

I think history would suggest that there are plently of job applicants everytime the throne situation becomes vacant. If the job comes up again in the near future, maybe the Beckams could apply?

Although I can sympathise with other forum members' losses on Aril 29th, I suspect that whatever decision our govt. made about having or not having a "public holiday" or when to have it, there would have been a lot people unhappy? My suggestion would be that the royal couple could have had a private ceremony, sold the rights to any number of well known pap/tat publications and then given the money to the Exchequor. If people wanted to take the day off and have a party they could have done so without the govt. or our Monarch telling them officially to do so.
