interesting comment about the choke, mine once pulled out slowly goes back in all by its self ! so is there a twist and lock feature built into the knob?

There's a little 'collet' built in to the cable mechanism behind the console. Difficult to get at but possible to change or make a new one (very fiddly). Well worth it though if you start & use your car a lot in cold weathers.

They have to be the old skool top quality sprung wooden peg

Same effect but 'automotive' sourced, I hold my choke with a crocodile clip off a defunct circuit tester. (Buy cheap, buy twice)
