This project will upset the purists

it's all a bonus, the scrapper or a full on drag car, whats not to like? These sorts of projects raise the Rover P6 profile hugely, just think of the interest the Bygone Autos car and Rover Works cars generated over the years and there were only a couple of them so percentage wise even 1 more is significant.

Ermm, i think that someone should whisper to them a few things about the S gearbox and diff...
or you are to going to let them find out on the start line...

good idea

Yes I think the diff and box will both expire on the first run

The 4.6 litre engine that he says he has there, has at some point been fitted with a distributor. The spiral gear on the end of the camshaft (which is not a 4.6 camshaft for that very reason as it is not long enough to fit one) makes that obvious.

As others have rightly pointed out, he'll break the gearbox much sooner rather than later.

Who are the purists anyway? I think I might have only met one person in 8 years of owning my P6 that's told me I shouldn't have changed things on it. On the whole I think most enthusiasts (Rover or otherwise) like to see cars being used and looked after whether they're modified or not. There's nothing wrong with what these guys are doing to what was effectively a breaker as far as I can see - if it was a pristine '64 or FLK car then that might be different.

I bookmarked this the other day. Very interesting.

I was going to inform them that this statement:

Relentless racing said: Problem is that the engine bay was pre-determined by the weird suspension setup

is actually back to front. But to join up just to state that would put me a couple of anorak levels below Harvey & seems excessive.

I've seen you eyeing up my anorak.....

It sort of reminds me of a RoadKill. But they would drive the car 500miles without any registration, MOT, insurance etc. and then drag race the car afterwards. Shame about the clutch though. I'd have thought when the engine and box was out...

I like it. It would only annoy the long handled shovel collectors, which is even better.

Yes, it would have been a shame if they cut up a pristine example, but they've saved a car that would have been scrapped and given it a longer life.

Three thumbs up.

Hi,

It sort of goes without saying that I love this project, transmission strength will ultimately become the limiting factor but these guys work fast and are creative so I can't want to see what they do next :D
