Tour de France

Well the final stage into Paris has arrived and after near enough to 3600km only 39 seconds separate the top two riders. Spain's Alberto Contador who rides for Astana is the current yellow jersey and barring incident will be the winner.

Second placed Andy Schleck of Luxembourg who rides for Saxo-Bank is the holder of the white jersey for the third time...(the white jersey is awarded to the best placed rider under 25 years of age).

It has been a fantastic tour.

Who will win the final stage? I'd love to see fellow Australian Robbie McEwen who rides for the Russian Katusha team, although I imagine that the Manx Missile...Mark Cavendish who rides for HTC Columbia will be unstoppable.

I have watched a lot more of the tour this year (one of the benefits of sitting in a hospital bed), and it has been really quite exciting at times, some very close racing, stunning performances, nasty crashes etc.. If it were condensed into about 2 hours it would knock the socks off any F1 race.

Cavendish has been incredible, easily out accelerating other riders by what looks like a factor of 2, it's like he's got a supercharger fitted.

Well... not being a special cycling fan, I read on the papers that this kind of races where all is good, beautiful and plenty of flowers must disappear.

I explain, it is not fair that the most important stage (Le Tourmalet) finishes with the two main riders on the top like good friends of all life long and almost holding hands.

This is a sport, all sportsmen have to do all their best to win over the rivals. Legally, of course.

But it seemed that Alberto Contador had to apologize for winning. It was a shame he appeared on the TV apologizing for not stopping when Schleck suffered his problem with the chain. Do you imagine Hamilton pulling over in case Alonso has a puncture or something like that? It's ridiculous!

Well, another good day for the Spanish. Contador in the morning, Alonso in the afternoon and Lorenzo in the evening.

Not a bad summer, I dare to say!

Cheers up.

Yes it has been a great tour, even with a little controversy, or maybe even because of it.

Alberto Contador has now won 5 Grand Tours,....composed of 3 Tours de France, 1 Giro di Italia (Tour of Italy) and 1 Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain).

The Ferraris were not exactly holding hands as they crossed the line were they?
Back on topic :)
That was an exciting Tour from beginning to end IMO
I reckon Andy knew he'd be a lot closer than people expected in the final TT stage, but was robbed due to his chain glitch on the mountain :( I'm sure the Contador not waiting to make it a fair battle of man and not machine story will run and run, like the fact that Cavendish could have worn green if he'd not sat up and lost valuable points earlier on in the stages or if his team mates hadn't dropped out for more controversial reasons. A great Tour 8)
