hi,
going to see a p6 later today.
wondered what advice anyone might have?
ty 8)

Good idea. 8)

I do like Triumphs as well though, although I have never actually owned one.

Hi a good P6 is a rewarding car to own with a good following & a pretty good parts back-up 8)

As with any classic my advice is this: buy the best one you can comfortably afford, dont buy the first one you see have a look at a few before you make a decision (unless the first one is an absolute cracker) & check VERY carefully for rot in the base unit (bodyshell) which is very easily concealed on a P6.

Some rot is a lot easier to spot ie if you open the back doors & the bottom of the door post by the door seal channel is bubbled or looks bodgey then you are more than likely in for a bit of major surgery, also check from inside the boot the wheelarch section can crumble quite badly  & the suspension top link mounts are another known blackspot, look at my photos in Member's Projects under the titles "Tiny's getting his sills done" & "I've seen less perforations in a box of teabags".

Whatever you do dont let me put you off buying one they are fantastic useable classics

Regards Colin

I had a sprint for 11 yrs as my daily driver, along with a latham kit based on a sprint.
I fancied a change so I bought a P6V8 as my daily driver, and then a TR6 to play with on sunny days!!
My perfect pair!!

I have a sprint engined TR7!
which is my first love really.great fun.
ty again
car was going to see had been sold so ill keep looking for now

I hesitate to say Triumph didn't build good engines - head gaskets and trust washer problems etc , but there's a TR6 on Ebay with a 3.9 Rover V8 conversion ...........

I would totally agree regarding the 4cyl 1300/1500/1850,and 2lt sprint engined cars, having had both and both motors fail due to thrust and head problems!!
But the very agricultural, straight 6 pot, 2lt and 2.5lt from the big saloons and TR5/6's which was inherited from the big standards is very strong!!
Smooth power and loads of torque!!

I remember those having thrust washer problems as well, however look hard enough and you'll find problems with any engine.................
