trying to find a place to order rear diff side shaft collars so i can replace the leaking diff seals, if anyone knows of a place they can be ordered from it would be greatly appreciated, i have tryed scouring the internet but have had no success by the way im in Perth Australia

thanks for any advice

Try your local CBC bearings shop, or any bearing shop as they sell them with the bearings That's Consolidated Bearing Company, I'm pretty sure they have Perth outlets

Are you looking for the collar that holds the axle stub in through the bearing. Here is a schematic of one of these collars:

They are as rare as hens teeth. I could not get one. I tried Wadhams and Wins in the UK. Rover Parts Services (Pierre) might have one. I did however manage to find a bearing housing with a broken axle stub, broken at the splines, with the collar still on. I practiced pressing off the collar on the press, and it was reusable. So I now have a spare. I used a bearing separator, applied pressure to it. Then applied some heat and it then popped off.

So see if you can get an old differential and practice on that, prior to attempting on your good differential. The other option is to use the diagram linked above and get one made at a machine shop.

Does your differential have a breather? If it does not, then you should fit one while working on it. Lack of a breather on the early differentials caused leakage problems.

James.

that will be the one i am looking for, looks like i will have to reuse it if they are that rear,
i haven't removed the diff yet, but was looking for them so when it came out i could simply replace them. when resealing the diff.
looks like i will have to be really careful.

Just to be picky, the early diffs did have a breather, but it was a torturous path through the axles and was ineffective. In essence, Rover outsmarted themselves.

I am currently also preparing to replace the oil seals and have sent a few emails to the usual suppliers some 3 weeks ago. WINS was the only one who answered to date and they can supply all the seals and o rings but do not have this collar. I intend machining these collars myself unless I can find someone who can supply them. My only problem with machining them is that I do not know what type of steel is used. I'd love to get my hands on an old diff before opening up mine. I will keep you posted on any news. BTW I have a post open on this subject myself.

They aren't hard, I can tell you that. Nor are they highly stressed. I imagine the critical dimension is the interference dimension between the axle OD and the collar ID.
